NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / August 4, 2017 / U.S. markets were mixed Thursday after the latest batch of corporate earnings. Disappointing performances from the technology and energy sectors dragged down the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ, while the Dow Jones inched towards to another record close. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.04 percent to close at a new record of 22,026.10. The S&P 500 Index declined 0.22 percent to close at 2,472.16. Average analyst forecasts earnings from S&P 500 companies to increase by 11.8 percent in the third quarter and 9.2 percent in the fourth quarter, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. The S&P 500 is currently trading at 18 times expected earnings, which is above the 10-year average of 14, according to Thomson Reuters Datastream.

"Earnings are supporting this market and consumers are supporting it from a macroeconomic standpoint," said Phil Blancato, CEO of Ladenburg Thalmann Asset Management. "This is a Goldilocks economy, good enough to push the market higher, no bubbles in sight."
