"The CR5400 reader allows employees with no specialized training to quickly check IDs, helping businesses comply with the law and maintain strong security."

Checking IDs is an important way for businesses to protect against fraud and comply with the law. But frontline workers at places like restaurants, banks, convenience stores, and mobile phone retailers also perform many other tasks, and may lack the specialized training to confidently check IDs. Businesses need a fast, accurate and easy-to-use way to determine whether IDs are genuine.

The new 3M™ CR5400 Double-Sided ID1 Reader gives businesses a simple way to confidently verify and authenticate driver's licenses, municipal ID cards, insurance cards, and more. There is no wrong way to insert a card into the reader, so employees need little to no training to use it. Users simply drop in an ID and the reader checks it in less than four seconds, reading the front and back simultaneously to compare the printed region, barcodes and magnetic stripe data. Color-coded LED lights give the user a real-time response - a green light means the ID is valid. Once the card is read, the reader automatically ejects it.

"This reader is designed with the retail environment in mind. Commercial businesses have different needs from government agencies such as border control or law enforcement, where users may be more skilled at detecting fraudulent documents," said Neil Runte, 3M product marketing manager. "The CR5400 reader allows employees with no specialized training to quickly check IDs, helping businesses comply with the law and maintain strong security."

In addition to basic dual-side verification, the CR5400 reader is also available with optional software which checks government-issued IDs against a database to verify authenticity. The reader also has an optional cradle for RFID and magnetic stripe data reading.

The CR5400 reader is one among many powerful 3M strategies, products and systems that create complete solutions for security challenges. For more information, view the CR5400 video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL9-VCjo3Vc and visit 3M.com/IdentityManagement.
