Some of the best jobs in the U.S. are in software development and computer systems, according to U.S. News and World Report. To do those jobs well, you have to understand algebra.

Algebra is the gateway to high school level math - and many say a predictor of future success. Kids can get a valuable leg up by improving newly learned math skills. They program video games through a classroom curriculum called Bootstrap, a name taken from computer science.

The program was founded by Emmanuel Schanzer in 2005, after he left a career in computer programming to teach math. He saw that students were struggling with concepts like functions, variables and linear equations - all algebraic concepts that are made concrete when you are programming.
