Today, Great Place to Work and FORTUNE named AbbVie to its annual listing of Best Workplaces for Giving Back. AbbVie took the No. 8 spot on the list, with 94% of AbbVie employees saying that they 'feel good about the ways we contribute to the community.'

'We celebrate and encourage the giving spirit of our employees. Their individual contributions of time, talent and initiative are what inform and inspire our philanthropic efforts,' said Tracie Haas, vice president, corporate responsibility, brand and communications, AbbVie.

Opportunities for AbbVie employees include:

  • Two paid days for every employee for volunteering;
  • An annual employee volunteerism initiative called 'Week of Possibilities,' where more than 7,200 employees in 57 countries donated their time in 2017; and
  • An annual Employee Giving Campaign in North America, with more than 91 percent of employees choosing to give to nonprofit organizations. Employee donations are also matched by the Abbvie Foundation to more than 164,255 charities, including schools, hospitals and a number of nonprofit organizations.

The ranking considered more than 385,000 employee surveys from companies across the United States. Great Place to Work, a research and consulting firm, evaluated more than 50 elements of team members' experience on the job. These included employee pride in the organization's community impact, belief that their work makes a difference, and feeling their work has special meaning. The ranking also accounted for how women, people of color, Baby Boomers and LGBT individuals experience giving back in the workplace.
