• Furthermore, as part of World Environment Day, the company has published the new measures that will be included in its environmental policy.

June 5, 2015 - Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B/P SM /NASDAQ: ABGB), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, which is a member of the "Spanish Group for Green Growth", has signed the Barcelona Declaration, which includes ten recommendations to promote a low carbon economy.

The need for society to move towards a low carbon and green growth economic model is both a duty and an opportunity for Abengoa to develop and continue its businesses in an appropriate way, promoting innovative technology solutions for sustainable development.

Green growth refers to economic activities that help maintain the quality of our physical environment, primarily through efficient resource use. This approach allows us to define what a Green Growth model should be like in Spain, what it is capable of achieving, and the conditions that need to exist to make it a reality.

This has been translated into ten recommendations that have been defined to mark this occasion:

  1. Recognize the green economy as a source of economic growth and prosperity.
  2. Approve policies that reinforce a green commitment.
  3. Establish a stable, predictable and transparent regulatory framework.
  4. Eliminate red tape and ensure institutional coordination.
  5. Promote research, innovation and technology as catalysts for growth.
  6. Promote information and awareness.
  7. Develop financing capabilities and remove barriers.
  8. Progress towards a low carbon economy with every sector contributing.
  9. Incentivize public-private sector collaboration.
  10. Review the applicable taxation to make it a tool for supporting green growth.

To celebrate World Environment Day, which is being held today, Abengoa has also presented the company's new Environmental Policy Statement.

Abengoa has always been aware that its processes and services must be environmentally-friendly and preserve our natural resources. It therefore has a commitment to protect the environment that goes beyond merely complying with prevailing legislation, which is established through principles such as integrating environmental management into the company's corporate strategy; ensuring that its commitment to protect the environment is inherent in all its activities; promoting the efficient use of resources; reducing any environmental impacts; encouraging appropriate waste management across the whole of the supply chain; promoting actions that help to reduce the effects of climate change; supporting measures such as carbon and water footprint measurements, while raising awareness and understanding of these issues.

This new initiative once again demonstrates Abengoa's dedication to the environment and its commitment to sustainability and combatting climate change.
