• The water sector has recognized Abengoa's work and contribution in 2014 naming it Water Company of the Year at the Global Water Awards.

WASHINGTON, April 28, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Abengoa (MCE:ABG.B/P SM) (Nasdaq:ABGB), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has been named Water Company of the Year at the Global Water Awards ceremony held in Athens, Greece. This award recognizes the contribution that Abengoa has made to the water sector in 2014 through its projects, research, etc. This event brings together the best companies and individuals in the sector every year.

The awards committee took into account Abengoa's ability to offer customized solutions for each client, as well as the diversification of its non-desalination assets. The unique and innovative characteristics of the Vista Ridge water transmission project also caught the attention of the committee.

The Global Water Awards were created in 2005 by Global Water Intelligence, a leading authority in the international water industry. These awards are presented by professionals in the water sector, such as business leaders, researchers and managers, making them highly representative of the sector as a whole.

This is not the first nomination that Abengoa has received in the water sector at these types of awards, having been recognized on various occasions for its performance in the water industry in the fields of desalination and project management. Abengoa has won Desalination Company of the Year twice (2009 and 2013), as well as the award for Desalination Project of the Year (2007) and Developer of the Year (2007).

This latest recognition will further consolidate Abengoa's leadership in the water sector, in which it has carried out numerous projects in various regions, including Ghana, Spain, Turkey, Morocco and USA.
