Abengoa SA : Abengoa organizes employment training programs in Brazil

11/30/2012 | 05:21am US/Eastern
  • The training will offer people new employment opportunities

Seville, November 30, 2012. Abengoa, the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainable development in the energy and environment sectors, is carrying out various educational initiatives in Brazil to reduce illiteracy, promote job training and develop skilled labor for sugar cane production.

Continuous technological advances and growing environmental awareness have accelerated the mechanization of agriculture in Brazil. The country's legislation calls for the elimination of sugarcane burning, which is vital for manual cutting, by 2021. To address this new situation, member companies of UNICA, the trade union for the sugarcane industry, have launched various job training initiatives that will allow existing cane cutters to adapt to this mechanization as well as learning new skills for other sectors, such as electricians, welders or heavy machinery operators, among others.

Abengoa, in collaboration with UNICA and the National Industrial Training Service (SENAI) recently expanded the range of training available to include mechanics and electrician courses for the automotive sector. The company has also launched a local project to reduce illiteracy within the industry. As a result, people that have attended these courses will now be able to go on to occupational training courses.
