Polish utilities PGNiG SA (PGN.WA) and Tauron Polska Energia SA (>> Tauron PE) have picked Abener, a subsidiary of Spain's Abengoa SA (>> Abengoa SA), to build heat-and-power plant Elektrocieplownia Stalowa Wola, a joint-venture between the two companies, for PLN1.57 billion zlotys ($494 million), PGNIG and Tauron said in a statement Thursday.
Stalowa Wola, planned to produce 449.15 megawatts, is a 50%-50% joint venture between Polskie Gornictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA, Poland's state-controlled gas utility, and Tauron, a state-controlled power utility.
