abertis telecom, the abertis group's telecommunications infrastructure operator, will participate for the seventh year running in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012, which will take place in Barcelona from 27 February to 1 March. At this year's event, which will be held under the slogan "Redefining Mobile", the company will deploy the digital network used to carry out the demonstrations of DMB Mobile TV and DAB digital radio and its technological successor, DAB+. These demonstrations, with the collaboration of the BBC's radio broadcasting unit, which will contribute its live broadcast content, will confirm the feasibility of DAB and DMB standards for the transmission of digital radio and mobile TV, as well as its reception on mobile devices (smartphones and tablets).
During the event, abertis telecom will also launch its developments aimed at communications for security and emergency forces through mobile devices and will carry out demonstrations of the platforms it has developed in the Smart Cities field, such as the first Smart Zone in Spain and the Barcelona Ciutat Intel•ligent project.
As far as Connected Television is concerned, abertis
telecom will use the event as an opportunity to demonstrate
its OTT (over the top) solution for multi-screen television
on the cloud, which provides all the services necessary for
"end-to-end" management of online content for
operators, radio broadcasters and content providers.
The platform has a set of converging broadcast-broadband
solutions developed according to the HbbTV hybrid
television standard aimed at the audiovisual sector in the
DTTcom environment. It is a cloud-based solution which
allows the service to be offered without the need to
develop an in-house infrastructure, offering various
alternatives to monetise content distribution on the
Internet.
abertis telecom will carry out these demonstrations using a wide range of devices: smartphones, tablets, PCs, set-top boxes and connected televisions, confirming the feasibility of its solution in different operating systems: Android, iOS and Windows.
abertis telecom has been the Official Mobile Television Network Provider for the MWC since 2006. Every year, the abertis group's telecommunications infrastructure operator has deployed and run networks using different technologies, thereby guaranteeing the development of the technical demonstrations which take place during the event.
