The first set of updated human resources tools designed and delivered by Accenture Federal Services is helping the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) develop a modern, on-demand system for accessing personnel information.

The FBI / Accenture team implemented the first of several planned upgrades to an outdated collection of existing systems using a proven and cost-effective human resources commercial off-the-shelf IT product. This initial implementation supports the FBI's transformation goals and was delivered to the Bureau on time and under budget.

"This first step in the modernization and centralization of the FBI's human resources capabilities marks the beginning of a transformation that will result in improved mission readiness across the agency," said Jennifer Pratt, who leads Accenture's work with the U.S. Department of Justice. "Accenture Federal Services is committed to supporting each step in the process in order to secure the agency's success in the midst of change."

The new HR Source system provides the Bureau with a modern, web-based human resources application. HR Source now supports the Bureau's core HR functions including personnel action requests, benefits and payroll documents, and organization and position management.

To help the FBI implement this new suite of human resources management tools, the team also developed and conducted training for about half of the system's 1,000 users. This training, held in conjunction with FBI trainers and online training sessions, helped ease the transition for system users and secured the successful launch of the new system.

Building on the success of this launch, the next phase of work is focused on the FBI's talent management cycle and includes employee and job profiles as well as recruiting and selection capabilities. When complete, the FBI will have a centralized, standardized and upgraded IT system that will give the Bureau the ability to understand their workforce, and forecast talent needs earlier and at a detailed level.
