In this panel session, Bernardo Mendez, product manager, Smart Grid and Renewable Energy, for Active Power, will discuss the economics of microgrids and how the rapid introduction of distributed generation will impact this growing market. A skilled strategist in the energy storage space, Mendez will bring depth of experience and knowledge to the panel in terms of how energy storage such as flywheels can play a critical role in enabling microgrids to deliver reliable, clean power as intermittent renewables become more commonplace.

Ron Landis, vice president of Engineering for Active Power, will participate on this panel to discuss energy storage and its application in mission critical facilities that require high availability. Distributed generation and its performance and economic impact on these types of facilities will also be explored. An accomplished electronic and mechanical design and systems engineer, Landis has more than 25 years of experience in designing critical power systems for mission critical applications, making him an ideal fit and thought leader for this discussion.
