CHICAGO, July 9, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MSDSonline, the leading provider of cloud-based environmental, health and safety (EHS) solutions, will host a presentation reviewing this year's OSHA Globally Harmonized System (GHS) deadlines at the 52nd ASHE Annual Conference and Technical Exhibition in Boston, Massachusetts on July 13, 2015. Chuck Haling, MSDSonline vice president of sales, will address the top compliance challenges healthcare facility managers, engineers and safety professionals face with the GHS transition and steps to prepare the workplace for the critical changes.

During the presentation, titled GHS: 2 Deadlines Hit in 2015. Are you Ready?, Haling will detail the five main requirements of a compliant employer Hazard Communication (HazCom) program and describe the changes GHS adoption brings to maintaining safety data sheet formats, hazardous chemical inventories, container labels and employee training programs. The presentation is part of the Compliance Strategies Track, and will be held on Monday, July 13 from 3:15-4:30 p.m. ET.

"With the implementation of the GHS currently underway, it's essential that healthcare professionals have a solid understanding of the HazCom Standard updates in order to stay in compliance and continue to keep hospital employees and patients safe," said Haling. "Hospitals typically utilize a vast array of chemicals to keep facilities clean, treat patients and support the building infrastructure — many of which pose potential dangerous hazards if improperly handled."

The most recent GHS deadline was June 1, 2015, the date by which chemical manufacturers, and many distributors and importers, were expected to reclassify chemicals and update all safety data sheets and labels to the new GHS format. With two more deadlines approaching, including the final one on June 1, 2016, the time is now for facility managers and safety professionals to take the steps necessary to maintain HazCom compliance and integrate the GHS related changes.
