Dortmund, 19 October 2017 - adesso AG has acquired 100% of the shares in medgineering GmbH, which is based in Halle (Westphalia). The company has developed a first-aider communication system for dispatch centres that notifies professional or voluntary first aiders in the immediate vicinity of an emergency as soon as an emergency doctor and ambulance are alerted. adesso will drive forward the country-wide expansion of the system to all dispatch centres in Germany on a revised technical basis. The purchase price was less than EUR 1 million. An earn-out agreement was also concluded with the former partner, who will continue to support the company in an advisory capacity. Potential revenue in Germany is less than EUR 10 million. The first positive contribution to earnings is expected in 2019.

The acquisition of medgineering represents a further expansion of adesso's portfolio of health industry solutions and offers access to additional customers at state and municipal public bodies and hospitals throughout Germany. adesso will also be able to integrate Germany's leading smartphone-based first-aider notification system solution into its portfolio, effective immediately. The system locates registered, medically trained first aiders and guides them to emergencies in their immediate vicinity using a smartphone app. The 'mobile rescuer' reaches the patient in an average of four minutes - faster than a notified ambulance. More than 7,500 'mobile resucers' currently use the system in Germany. Approximately 5,000 alerts have been sent via the system, which currently serves five million people in Germany. By the rapid intervention of the mobile rescuers, many human lives could already be saved.

medgineering's expertise in the e-health segment makes it a good fit for adesso's strategy to expand its healthcare portfolio by including exciting new solutions. The Mobile Retter (Mobile Rescuer) system has received a number of awards and significant attention in the media. It is a comprehensive solution that complements the existing rescue process. The concept also supports the recruitment and training of first aiders, the provision of insurance coverage, the deployment follow-up process, and addresses issues including legal security and data protection.

The acquisition means that adesso's comprehensive expert knowledge in the areas of technology, insurance, data protection and service management will flow into medgineering's products. That will improve the quality of the system and significantly broaden its prospects. For example, the principle of mobile emergency notification could also be applied in cases where hospitals have an insufficient number of doctors on duty, or in private-sector plant safety applications. To ensure the sustainable development of the platform, Markus Lünsmann, head of the Microsoft area at adesso, will also take responsibility for medgineering GmbH as the managing director.
