Indonesia ranks among the three largest sourcing countries for the adidas Group.

Jakarta, 17 November 2014 - Today, the adidas Group celebrates more than 25 years of manufacturing in Indonesia, one of its key sourcing locations. The company initially started sourcing footwear and apparel in Indonesia and now sources accessories and gear as well. Among many innovative sports products, the world-famous adidas Predator football boot has been consistently produced in Indonesia over the last 20 years.

This long history of manufacturing in the country is testament to the adidas Group sourcing strategy, which focuses on key strategic partnerships with its supplier base. Looking ahead, the company will substantially increase its sourcing volumes from Indonesia.

The 'adidas in Indonesia' celebration event takes place in Jakarta, where the adidas Group has convened all its local suppliers. Mr. Bachrul Chairi, Director General of International Cooperation for Indonesia, is attending the meeting as well and will address the audience on the economic trends for Indonesia, with special focus on the footwear and apparel sector.

German football legend Franz Beckenbauer, who won the FIFA World Cup™ twice, as a player and as a team manager, is also joining the event and sharing his memories about iconic adidas football boots.

A panel discussion will conclude the celebration event. Topics to be covered are, among others, the evolution of Indonesia as a sourcing location for the sporting goods industry, which trends are impacting the industry as well as the potential of Indonesia as a sales market.

Panelists include:

  • Mr. Glenn Bennett, Executive Board Member, adidas Group
  • Mr. Benjamin Handradjasa, Country Manager for adidas Indonesia
  • Dr. Ir. Himawan Hariyoga, Deputy Chairman - Investment Promotion for The Investment Coordinating Board Republic of Indonesia/BKPM

We are very proud of our long history here in Indonesia. Today, it's all about celebrating our achievements in this country, the long-standing partnerships with our suppliers as well as our future sourcing plans. It is also about celebrating the great products that we make together with our suppliers, of which Predator is a prime example.

John McNamara, Senior VP Sourcing, adidas Group

The event will be followed by the adidas Group global suppliers' summit, to be held in Jakarta on 18 November.
