ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation open networking solutions, today announced the availability of its highly programmable 10G-PON SD-Access portfolio of residential and business gateways powered by ADTRAN Mosaic™ OS. The cost-effective, highly-elastic SD-Access gateways are natively integrated into the ADTRAN Mosaic Cloud architecture, extending SDN control to the customer edge and supporting service orchestration across the entire access network. The ADTRAN SDX 600 gateways and Mosaic OS represent the culmination of ADTRAN’s market-leading assets by integrating field-proven business VoIP, Carrier Ethernet and dynamic RF management and Self Optimizing Network (SON) capabilities into residential solutions.

“Service providers have historically faced a common problem with ONTs being closed and proprietary. Native SDN control allows for greatly simplified interoperability, breaking service providers out of the vendor lock-in that exists in traditional PON systems,” said Julie Kunstler, principal analyst, Ovum. “A direct cloud to subscriber edge, software-defined management architecture, like ADTRAN’s, removes the need for lengthy multi-vendor integration cycles and enables the service provider to rapidly evolve its service offerings by taking advantage of emerging technologies.”

The highly-programmable ADTRAN SDX 600 residential and business 10 Gigabit gateways are the first of their kind, supporting NG-PON2 and XGS-PON to unleash the capacity of fiber networks. When these SD-Access solutions are deployed at a customer site and paired with a unifying next-generation OS and cloud platform, such as ADTRAN Mosaic, service providers can create a powerful user-driven service delivery platform. This approach to user-driven service delivery enables telco and cable providers to operate at web-scale, supporting expanded service flexibility and velocity for voice, data, video and smart home applications.

“Service providers are demanding highly programmable residential and business gateways that support both an agile 10Gbps physical connection and a zero-touch deployment model which leads to dramatically reduced operational costs and improved quality of experience,” said Jeremy Harris, portfolio manager, customer devices, ADTRAN. “ADTRAN SD-Access architectures allow service providers to support rapid service creation and customer expansion while enjoying new paradigms in network efficiency.”

In partnership with Spirent at MEF16 in Baltimore, November 7-10, ADTRAN will host a Proof of Concept (PoC) showcase to demonstrate solutions for rapid, zero-touch on-boarding of cloud-based 10G Carrier Ethernet services over SDN-controlled NG-PON2 networks. This will include proactive assurance of services with automated turn-up verification, intelligent SLA monitoring and programmable network modification.
