Transoft, an Advanced 365 company (Advanced) has announced the launch of the Transoft OpenVMS BASIC to C++ Language Converter. The solution has been developed for organisations that are migrating legacy applications written in BASIC and currently hosted on HP's OpenVMS platform to alternative modern environments. HP is to withdraw standard support for OpenVMS in 2020.

The new Language Converter is Advanced's latest addition to its existing suite of software migration and modernisation solutions. The solution automates the translation of an application's underlying program language from BASIC to C++ in order to facilitate compatibility with modern operating systems. Translation to a modern programming language also supports ongoing development and enhancements.

C++ is a flexible, highly extensible language that is widely used to write and integrate business systems. For many organisations, the continued use of BASIC is a risk as experienced programmers required to support legacy systems are increasingly hard to find.

Advanced recently deployed the solution to enable a major European bank to migrate its core banking software from OpenVMS to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux-based operating system.

Neil Cross, Managing Director Advanced 365, comments: "The new Language Converter simplifies migration to modern open systems platforms and allows organisations to continue using established systems that are key to operations and service delivery.

"Moving to C++ also removes the risk from experienced BASIC programmers retiring and provides organisations with an opportunity to update and future-proof their core applications by adding new features and functionality."

Advanced has been a leading expert in application modernisation for more than 25 years. The company has helped thousands of organisations worldwide to get the most from their existing bespoke applications. The company provides a combination of proven tools and expert professional services to help customers achieve their goals on time and to budget.

Advanced 365 is an Advanced Computer Software Group company. In 2014, the Group won Tech Company of the Year in PwC's UK Tech Awards and was ranked in the Deloitte UK Technology Fast 50, which recognises the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the UK.
