Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) advanced 0.07% to close at $14.17 on Wednesday. The stock traded between $14.10 and $14.64 on volume of 58.82 million shares traded. After hours trading saw some upward movement of the stock price. AMD has been challenging competitor Intel for some time and some analysts are saying that AMD can take advantage of Intel's business strategy of long term change and growth. AMD chips are focused on new technologies such as IoT (the Internet of Things) and artificial intelligence, making it sleeker for short to medium term profit. AMD has also re-engineered its Ryzen-7 microprocessor, addressing the criticisms that it was too slow for serious PC and other gamers. While the company openly admits it is not going to surpass the Intel line of CPUs in performance, it can compete with them in terms of price. All of this makes AMD a stock to watch.

NVIDIA slid 0.74% to close at $100.03 on Wednesday. The stock traded between $99.50 and $102.37 on volume of 18.68 million shares traded. The company was downgraded from a "sector perform" rating to a "underweight" rating by Pacific Crest. Other analysts, such as Canaccord Genuity analyst Matthew Ramsay, has not turned into a bear on the stock but does believe a reduction in target price is warranted. In general, the concern is that the microprocessor market will become oversaturated, resulting in lower profit margins for the industry as a whole. NVIDIA will also see the end of royalty payments from Intel later in the year, directly affecting its bottom line.
