Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc (TAIEX:2311, NYSE:ASX), the world's largest semiconductor assembly and test service provider, today hosted a Supplier Forum in Kaohsiung for its global suppliers. The forum was organized to launch the ASE Group ‘Supplier Sustainability Award’ for the year 2017. It is also a platform for ASE to communicate the purpose of the award, the assessment criteria as well as to incorporate sustainability within the ASE supply chain, thus creating more positive impacts to the industry as a whole.

Approximately 250 representatives from 100 companies worldwide supplying goods and services including raw materials, indirect materials and chemicals to ASE were in attendance. The forum was also supported by executives from distinguished industry organizations and academic institutions including KPMG Sustainability Services, National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology’s College of Management and the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management.

“At our annual Supplier Award Ceremony this March, we announced the creation of a ‘Sustainability Supplier Award’ category for the Year 2017. It is our hope that our supply partners not only work with us on technology and supply support but also incorporate sustainability within their management system,” said S S Lee, General Manager, ASE Corporate Procurement. “The ASE Group is committed to work with our suppliers to raise the global standards for a sustainable, innovative and ethical supply chain network for a win-win relationship.”

As a global leader in outsourced semiconductor assembly and test, ASE is also seeking to set an example for the OSAT and semiconductor industry in achieving excellence in sustainability. ASE has engaged the National Kaohsiung First University as an independent assessor to design questionnaires, tools and scorecards to evaluate suppliers on their sustainability practices. The ASE supplier sustainability evaluation focuses on 6 categories – sustainability management, supply chain management, environmental practices, health and safety, labor rights and sustainability performance. At today’s forum, ASE also shared with participants the trends and perspectives on Sustainability Management, to further encourage their commitment to sustainability issues.

“Sustainable supply chains are critical to a business’ long term success and it is an area that is of concern to our customers, shareholders and the community we operate in. Today’s forum demonstrates our efforts to work closely with our supply partners to establish strong corporate governance polices including sustainability,” said K C Chou, Senior Vice President, ASE Kaohsiung.
