Executive Vice President Meg McCarthy Celebrated for Advancing
Education and Careers for Women in the Fields of Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math
Aetna's Meg
McCarthy, executive vice president, Innovation, Technology & Service
Operations, has been honored as one of 100 Women Leaders in STEM
(science, technology, engineering and math) by STEMconnector™.
McCarthy, who has 30 years of information systems and health care
operations experience, is profiled this month in the inaugural 100
Women Leaders in STEM publication.
100 Women Leaders in STEM showcases the careers and initiatives
of more than 100 leaders who are active role models for women in
America's growing shortage of STEM professionals. The publication
features profiles of leaders in the corporate, government and nonprofit
sectors, including CEO´s, presidents and key public officials. Also
included in the publication are op-eds featuring data and perspectives
about women in STEM.
"We recognize women are a major solution to STEM careers in every
sector. With these role models, the goal is clear-- to advance the cause
of attracting more girls and women to STEM careers as our country´s
economy relies more than ever on a prepared STEM workforce," said Edie
Fraser, CEO, STEMconnector™.
In her current role at Aetna, McCarthy oversees an organization of
14,000 employees and has responsibility for clinical innovation,
technology and service operations, process and performance improvement,
procurement and real estate services. Prior to joining Aetna in 2003 she
was senior vice president of Information Technology at CIGNA Healthcare,
held CIO positions at Catholic Health Initiatives and Franciscan Health
Systems, was a consulting partner at Ernst & Young, and senior manager
at Andersen Consulting (Accenture). McCarthy has previously been
recognized as one of Insurance & Technology Magazine's "Elite
8" and Computerworld's Top 100 leaders. She has a Master of
Public Health (MPH) degree, Hospital Administration, from Yale
University, and a B.A. degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Providence College.
