Agfa HealthCare announces today going live with the new PACS installation at King Khalid Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH), in Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at an event organized at the hospital on 27 May 2015. The Belgian ambassador to Saudi Arabia will attend the event. The contract includes a new Agfa HealthCare picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and ceiling-suspended direct radiography (DR) room for the hospital.

Improving safety and minimizing errors
King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) is a tertiary care Ophthalmic facility supervised by the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The hospital provides quality tertiary ophthalmic care to patients and promotes the delivery of Kingdom-wide Ophthalmic care through its outreach, educational and research programs.
The hospital is known for its advanced IT infrastructure. In November 2014, it received the HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 award. Reaching Stage 6 is a result of establishing clear goals for improving safety, minimizing errors and prioritizing IT implementations.
For the past decade, KKESH has used a third-party PACS. Following a tender for a new PACS, the hospital chose Agfa HealthCare, and decided to also implement a state-of-the-art ceiling-suspended X-ray room.

Fast availability of information improves diagnostic confidence
The Agfa HealthCare PACS quickly delivers information, improves productivity and communication, increases workflow efficiency, streamlines the multiple stages in patient care, and saves time. It connects users with the images and information for effective and informed healthcare delivery.

The ceiling-suspended DR X-ray room is a high-productivity solution ideal for facilities with a high patient load that are looking to streamline workflow and increase throughput. It offers a complete portfolio of fully-motorized, semi-automatic and manual configurations. The fully-automatic system includes the latest in state-of-the-art auto-positioning technology. The DR room comes with Agfa HealthCare's gold standard MUSICA image processing software, which has been specially adapted and tuned to further enhance the excellent DR image quality. Exam-independent, it delivers consistent image quality and high contrast detail, offering the potential for significant dose reduction when used with Cesium Iodide detectors. Testing with board certified Radiologists has determined that Cesium Iodide detectors when used with MUSICA processing can provide dose reductions of between 50 to 60% when compared to traditional Barium Fluoro Bromide Computed Radiography systems.
