AGL Energy Limited (AGL) and the Broken Hill Art Exchange are pleased to announce the winner of the $10,000 AGL Viewing Platform Art and Design Competition.

Timothy Bauer, whose entry is titled 'Earth and Sky', was chosen from the four finalists announced earlier this month.

The winner was revealed on Saturday 25 March at an official awards ceremony held at the Geocentre Broken Hill, following presentations to the judging panel from all four finalists the previous day.

AGL Head of Government and Community Relations Tony Chappel said that selecting the winner presented a difficult task.

'It was a real challenge to pick our winner, all four concepts were outstanding.

'I would like to congratulate all the finalists, and thank them for travelling to Broken Hill to present their concepts to the judging panel.

'Timothy's work however was unique, and we believe will make a valuable and lasting contribution to the artistic and cultural landscape of Broken Hill.

'When built it will also be a fantastic place to view and learn about the Broken Hill Solar Plant,' Mr Chappel said.

Work will now start with architects and builders to construct the viewing platform.

Ben Waters, one of the other finalists, was also announced as winner of the $1,000 community choice award.

All entries will remain on display at the Desert Equinox Prelude event entitled: A prelude to a Broken Hill Biennale of art celebrating Solar - Sun & Earth, until 23 April 2017.

The Viewing Platform Art and Design Competition was launched earlier this year to celebrate the opening of AGL's Broken Hill Solar Plant, and enhance its educational potential.

The 140 hectare solar plant produces enough renewable energy to power 17,000 homes every year.
