AGL Energy : hosts tour of proposed Silverton Wind Farm site

AGL Energy Limited (AGL) will host a tour of the proposed Silverton Wind Farm site in western NSW for members of the Community Consultative Committee (CCC) to get a first-hand look at the site.

The tour will be conducted on the morning of Thursday, 20 October 2016, with the CCC meeting held that night from 6pm-8pm at the Silverton Youth Hall, Silverton Road. At this meeting local residents can get an update on the project's next steps, ask questions, and learn more about potential employment and business opportunities.

AGL's Silverton Wind Farm project manager, Adam Mackett said, 'AGL recently provided the Modification 3 submissions report to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment which takes advantage of advancements in wind turbine technology and significantly reduces the number of wind turbines.

'Modification 3 will enable the project to consider the latest wind turbine technology, which will result in a more efficient use of the excellent wind resource with fewer turbines. This will reduce the wind farm's footprint.

'We are continuing to progress the development of the project including commercial arrangements ahead of an investment decision. During this time we will continue to consult with the community throughout the process,' Mr Mackett said.

The Silverton Wind Farm is initially proposed to have a capacity of up to 200 MW and will produce approximately 700,000 MWh of renewable energy annually, which can power more than 120,000 average Australian homes. The renewable energy produced will reduce CO2 emissions by 580,000 tonnes annually, which is the equivalent of taking 170,000 cars off the road each year.
