AGL Energy Limited (AGL) will provide the community with an update on the proposed Silverton Wind Farm in western New South Wales (NSW) at the next Community Consultative Committee (CCC) meeting on Thursday 28 July, 2016.

AGL's Silverton Wind Farm project manager, Adam Mackett, said discussion will include an update on the project status, including the recent tender and details of the modification application to the Project Approval.

'The modification is intended to take advantage of advances in wind turbine technology. We have recently submitted the modification to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DP&E) for their review prior to public exhibition. This modification will allow the project to consider the next evolution of wind turbines.

'The project is moving along well. We are continuing to consult with the community throughout the process and AGL appreciates their commitment to the process.

'A final decision on whether the project proceeds to construction will depend on a number of factors, including the results of commercial discussions with shortlisted tenderers, the final scope of the project, further development activities and financing arrangements,' Mr Mackett said.

Tomorrow's CCC meeting will be held from 6 to 8pm at the Silverton Youth Hall, Silverton Road. Local residents are encouraged to attend as the meeting is an opportunity to be updated on the project's next steps, ask questions, and learn more about potential employment and business opportunities.

It is hoped the Silverton Wind Farm would be one of the first projects offered to the Powering Australian Renewables Fund.

The Silverton Wind Farm is initially proposed to have a capacity of up to 200 MW and will produce approximately 700,000 MWh of renewable energy annually, which can power more than 120,000 average Australian homes. The renewable energy produced will reduce CO2 emissions by 580,000 tonnes annually, which is the equivalent of taking 170,000 cars off the road each year.
