In Lithuania, in June to August, 2014, Lithuanian milk producers sold 434.81 thousand tonnes of raw whole milk that is by 7.5 per cent more than during the corresponding period last year and the average price for purchasing raw whole milk increased by 13.5 per cent (up to 879,61 per tonne (excluding VAT). During the period analyzed, Lithuanian milk processors purchased raw whole milk for approximately by 8.6 per cent lower price in June and even by 20.2 per cent lower in August ( due to Russian embargo) than during the same period a year ago. During the period analyzed, the largest decrease of price was suffered by the farmers and family farms whom Lithuanian milk processors paid 827.58 Lt/t (without VAT) this summer, i.e. by 14.6 per cent less than in the corresponding period in 2013. Lithuanian milk processors purchased raw whole milk by 10.3 per cent lower price (1 085.9 Lt per tonne (excluding VAT)) in average from agricultural companies and enterprises.

From June to August this year, milk trade was activated, for example Lithuanian milk producers sold 39.33 thousand tonnes of raw whole milk to other EU countries and that made 76.0 per cent more than during the corresponding period the previous year, while the import increased by 10.6 per cent (up to 123.31 thousand tonnes). The largest amounts were oriented to Poland (totally 37.19 thousand tonnes), when the largest imported was Latvia (totally 78.19 thousand tonnes). This summer price, paid by Lithuanian milk producers toPolandwas 1 069.53 Lt per tonne (without VAT) - by 14.9 per cent less than in the corresponding period of 2013. Raw milk fromLatviaandEstoniawas purchased by lower price of 9.7 per cent (in average by 1 038.59 Lt per tonne without VAT) and by 7.1 per cent (in average by 1 117.09 Lt per tonne without VAT).

Despite the decrease of procurement price this summer, compared to 2013, the dairy consumers paid higher prices for the products. An average price of Lithuanian retail companies for butter (82 per cent fats) 200 g package increased by approximately 5.8 per cent to 5.01 Lt (with VAT), 1 kg of curd cheese (22 per cent fats) - by 6.3 per cent to 21.00 Lt (with VAT), 1 l of liquid milk of 2.5 per cent fats (tetrapak) - by 8.4 per cent to 3.11 Lt (with VAT), 1 kg of Tilsit cheese - also by 8.4 per cent to 25.50 Lt (with VAT), when 450 g package of sour cream (30 per cent fats) - by 10.6 per cent to 4.53 Lt (with VAT).
