Ahold is one of the world leaders in retailing. Net sales break down by activity as follows:
- retail distribution in the United States (61.2%): operated, at the end of 2012, 772 stores broken down by names between Stop & Shop (403), Giant-Carlisle (198) and Giant-Landover (171). The group is also active in sale and home or workplace delivery of groceries through the Website Peapod.com;
- retail distribution in Europe (38.8%): operated 2,302 stores under the names Albert Heijn (891 in the Netherlands), Gall & Gall (567 in the Netherlands), Etos (538 in the Netherlands) and Albert/Hypernova (306, of which 282 in Czech Republic and 24 in Slovakia).
Net sales break down geographically as follows: the Netherlands (33.7%), Europe (5.1%) and the United States (61.2%).
