On 25 February 2017, the captain of flight AB7416 from Dusseldorf to Cancun chose to make an out-of-course landing at Daytona Beach for safety reasons. All 271 passengers and the 12 crew members were unharmed and were able to safely exit the Airbus A330 using the stairs. A routine official investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of this diverted landing.

The onward flight will be operated by American Airlines.

Due to large-scale events in the region (including Spring Break), there are unfortunately no hotels available in the area. Passengers will be given accommodation at Daytona Airport on behalf of airberlin and provided with meals and hygiene products. The passengers also have access to internet and television.

airberlin regrets the inconvenience caused to its passengers and is doing everything possible to minimise the severity of this disruption.
