The US has demanded stricter passenger controls, with effect from 19 July 2017. With immediate effect, airberlin therefore requests that its passengers flying to the US proceed directly to the waiting room after check-in. Passengers heading for American destinations should be prepared for more intensive security checks. This particularly applies to any electronic devices they may be carrying.

This summer, Germany's second largest airline is flying to Boston, Chicago, Fort Myers, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Orlando and San Francisco. airberlin will continue to reposition itself as a network carrier in the 2017/18 winter schedule and has expanded its range of US flights compared to the previous year. As a result, airberlin is once again extending its market leadership as the largest provider of long-haul flights at its hubs, with 63 per cent more flights in Dusseldorf and 13 per cent more in Berlin compared to the previous year.
