Airbus Defence and Space has recently won two new Metro customers in China, the public transport companies Qingdao Metro LLC and Fuzhou City Metro LLC, to equip them with Tetra (Terrestrial trunked radio) technology. Including the new systems, more than 20 metro lines in China are using secure Tetra radio networks from Airbus Defence and Space by now.

Fuzhou Metro line 1 is the first in Fuzhou city, the provincial capital of Fujian, and covers with 21 stations a total length of around 29 km. Airbus Defence and Space is providing a Tetra system with a complete set of equipment, including the next-generation DXT3 switch, base stations, dispatcher workstation controllers and terminals. The system will provide optimal communications support for dispatching, operating and managing metro trains, and for ensuring the security of the metro line.

This follows another major contract that Airbus Defence and Space has signed to equip Qingdao Metro line 3 with Tetra. It will be the first metro line in Qingdao, a coastal city in the Shandong province, and will enter service at the end of 2015. The new radio communications system from Airbus Defence and Space will cover the whole 25.1 km line, which has 22 stations.
