Aachen, Germany, November 27, 2012 - AIXTRON SE today announced that the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, has placed an order for one BM Pro system in a 4-inch wafer configuration. The new BM Pro will be used in the development of technologies for clean energy storage and generation by Dr. Amal Al Ghaferi from Masdar Institute's Materials Science and Engineering Department.

Dr. Al Ghaferi comments, "We needed a system that was capable of producing high-quality, uniform and reproducible carbon nanotube films. After evaluating a number of options, we identified AIXTRON's BM Pro system as the most suitable solution for this."

Established in February 2007 as an on-going collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Masdar Institute is an independent graduate-level, research-oriented university specializing in alternative energy, sustainability, and the environment. Funded by the Abu Dhabi government, Masdar Institute is one of the region's leading technical universities, and more than 60 professors provide higher education in sustainable energy and advanced technology for over 250 students.

Dr. Al Ghaferi received her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA. She was awarded the United Kingdom Prime Minister's Initiative Award in 2009, a research cooperation funding program between the UK and the UAE*, as well as the 2009 Women in Science and Technology Fellowship in the US. In addition to these honors, Dr. Al Ghaferi has won two Sheikh Rashid Scientific Distinction Awards; one in 2000 and the other in 2007.
