According to numbers from the Wall Street Journal, U.S. imports of steel are expected to total 3.2 million tons in January, an increase of 23.0 percent when compared to a year ago. Currently, U.S. steel is roughly $159 per ton more expensive than Chinese steel, around the same time last year U.S. steel was $19 cheaper. "It?s the largest first-quarter import order I?ve seen in the last five years," one unnamed steel trader told the Wall Street Journal. China?s steel output hit a record of 779 million tons in 2013, an increase of 7.5 percent year-over-year.
