(NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading cloud platform for helping enterprises provide secure, high-performing user experiences on any device, anywhere, today announced the appointment of Lauren M. Van Wazer as Vice President of Global Public Policy. Ms. Van Wazer is a lawyer and engineer with more than 15 years of federal government and private sector experience in public policy and regulatory law related to technology, including cybersecurity, communications infrastructure, and national security. In this newly created position, Ms. Van Wazer will lead Akamai's public policy activities worldwide. She will report to Akamai Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Melanie Haratunian.

As former Assistant Director for Cybersecurity within OSTP, Ms. Van Wazer helped lead policy development on a wide range of topics in cybersecurity, including research and development, draft legislation, supply chain risk management, incident response, privacy, and information sharing mechanisms. She also served as OSTP's liaison to the National Security Staff Cybersecurity Directorate with primary responsibility for research and development. Her work at OSTP was recognized with the OSTP Award for Excellence for contributions to science and technology policy.

Ms. Van Wazer's background includes serving as Assistant General Counsel in the Office of Management and Budget. She has also held roles as the Chief Policy and Technology Counsel for Cox Enterprises, where she was the lead for regulatory affairs; and served for over six years as Associate Chief of the Federal Communications Commission's Office of Engineering and Technology, where she helped develop and implement wireless broadband, homeland security, and telecommunications technology policy.

Ms. Van Wazer holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, and a B.S.E. in Systems Science Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania's Moore School of Electrical Engineering.
