Cloud services provider recognized for financial performance, leadership in corporate sustainability

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - October 30, 2013 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading provider of cloud services for delivering, optimizing and securing online content and business applications, today announced it has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America. Akamai's selection came as the result of its performance on the annual RobecoSAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment. This was the first year Akamai was invited to participate in the assessment.

Grouped with 13 companies in the "TSV IT services & internet software and services industry," Akamai achieved an above average score in the economic and environmental categories. More than 3,000 publicly traded companies, including 800 companies in emerging markets, are invited to report on their sustainability practices each year and only 140 are named to the Index.

"In view of our broad, global footprint, we have taken steps designed to mitigate the impact of our business operations while seeking to realize the financial and social benefits of these sustainable business practices," said Akamai Director of Environmental Sustainability Nicole Peill-Moelter. "It's an honor to be named alongside the prestigious group of companies on this list. Our success is a direct result of our leadership team's impressive and thoughtful dedication over the past 15 years."

Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) is the first global index to track best practices and the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. Using the Corporate Sustainability Assessment, the DJSI analyzes companies based on three overarching categories: economic, environmental and social sustainability. The assessment provides an in-depth look at a company's stakeholder engagements, industry risks, and environmental and social practices such as supply chain management and climate strategy. Companies are also judged and categorized based on their geographic locations: world, Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.
