+++ Slovenia-based subsidiary of the environment specialists is nominated in the 'Process' category +++

Cologne. The Slovenia-based subsidiary of the environmental services provider Interseroh, INTERSEROH Plastics R&D d.o.o., is among the nominees in this year's European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE). The recycling specialist, which also maintains a centre of competence for recycling plastics in Maribor, Slovenia, succeeded in convincing the EBAE jury with its Recycled-Resource plastics recycling process.

The Recycled-Resource production process - which has won several awards - is based on a sophisticated upcycling recompounding process: the automated high-tech sorting of the various types of waste is followed by grinding, cleaning and washing the plastic according to pre-defined quality parameters, extrusion and restabilisation, as well as chemical modification with additives so as to obtain the exact characteristics that the customer requires.

The key innovation factor to be associated with Recycled-Resource is the modified recipe design. The recipes are developed by Interseroh in order to upgrade materials which originate from plastic waste - a key factor for the innovative recycling process. This means that Recycled-Resource constitutes a clear improvement to conventional recycling processes.

'Our nomination for this important European award recognises our long standing research and development work, and is a great honour to us,' explained Dr. Manica Ulcnik-Krump, Managing Director of INTERSEROH Plastics R&D d.o.o. and leader of the Business Unit for Recycled-Resource at Interseroh. 'The key benefits which Recycled-Resource offers for the environment are plain to see: in this way we are able to achieve a clear reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, conserve dwindling natural resources, and achieve a far better level of energy efficiency compared with the manufacturing of primary products.

About the EBAE:

Every two years, the European Commission awards prizes to businesses which both implement and integrate sustainability in their business model. The prize honours ecologically innovative methods, processes and products from all the sectors represented in the EU which contribute to a transition to the circular economy by reducing the impact of production and consumption on the environment, which simultaneously help the natural environment to resist ecological pressure, and which therefore achieve a more efficient and responsible use of natural resources.
