Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) is to deploy a 100G optical transport network in Thailand to help AIS, the country's leading mobile service provider, meet the growing demand for data capacity being created by increasing ownership of smartphones and tablet devices, as well as by tourism, a major element of the local economy.

AIS is to deploy Alcatel-Lucent's industry-leading 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) optical platform, combining it with elements of the existing 10G optical network. As a result, Alcatel-Lucent will help cost-effectively transform the AIS network, allowing the operator to provide high-speed, ultra-broadband Internet access in the face of demand which is doubling year-on-year.

Alcatel-Lucent is upgrading the network from Bangkok and out to the North and Northeast regions of Thailand. Work will be completed during the first half of 2015.

Key Facts:

  • Alcatel-Lucent is providing its 1830 PSS platform and the award-winning, single-carrier 100G/200G DWDM optical linecard. This will allow AIS to evolve its transport network capacity from 10G to 100G, and 200G in the future, without additional investment in hardware.
  • Alcatel-Lucent's 100G/200G technology will provide AIS with critical resiliency, as well as auto-restoration features based on a Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) control plane offering improved reliability and uninterrupted quality of experience for customers.
  • Value-added Operations Administration and Maintenance (OAM) capability provided by Wavelength Tracker ™ will enable AIS to better manage its network. Wavelength Tracker automatically monitors and adjusts wavelengths and power levels at any point in the network to isolate faults, monitor performance and correlate alarms.
