NORTHBROOK, Ill., July 08, 2016 - Allstate has chosen to sponsor the Sisters' Centennial Motorcycle Ride across the country, commemorating the centennial of Adeline and Augusta Van Buren's historic ride across the United States to prove women could ride motorcycles as well as anyone and were capable of serving as Army dispatch riders. The ride started on July 3 in New York and will end July 23 in San Francisco.

'Their transcontinental journey on motorcycles was a phenomenal accomplishment by two courageous women at a time when few roads were paved, Victorian attitudes were in full flare and women did not have the right to vote,' says Alisa Clickenger of Women's Motorcycle Tours, which is hosting the ride. 'This ride honors their achievement and promotes the growth of modern-day women motorcyclists and the motorcycling community.'

The family of the Van Buren sisters is riding in the event, as well, which is expected to draw more than 100 women riders, closely following the 1916 route. Combining scenic routes and important stops along the sisters' journey, participants will enjoy great motorcycle riding and promote women as motorcycling role models.

'For 50 years, Allstate agency owners have delivered motorcycle protection with a purpose: to keep riders riding,' says Allstate's Senior Marketing Manager of Motorcycle Insurance Jeff Sadler. 'We are honored to be a part of the Sisters' Centennial Ride, especially as this ride celebrates women motorcyclists - a strong and powerful group of riders who are embarking on a once in a lifetime trip.'

Community events are planned across the country to entice new women riders and share the joys of riding. The event concludes with a group ride into San Francisco, where festivities will celebrate the ride's completion.
