Nauplion, a picturesque town in the Morea (Peloponnese), is full of historical memories. The author, one of the first Greek women archaeologists, begins her narrative with the ancient myths relating to the town and proceeds to present its history through the analysis and description of the architecture of its monuments and buildings from ancient times to the periods of Venetian and Turkish rule. She ends with the period of Neoclassicism in the 19th century, when Nauplion was declared first capital of the Modern Greek state.
