Smart innovations, smarter mobility by Alstom

27 April 2017 - Alstom today held a press conference at La Cité du Cinéma in the Paris area, launching several breakthrough technologies to address the evolving needs of both operators and passengers. The announcements come in the lead-up to the UITP[1] exhibition 2017. Passengers want to be connected, for their travel time to be useful, and they require a seamless journey from door to door. Operators want help in handling multimodality and to improve punctuality and availability.

"Alstom innovates in order to ensure that the railway system becomes more integrated, more efficient for transport operators and more attractive for passengers. We think that the role of Alstom is not only to provide rolling stock, services and maintenance but to offer mobility solutions to a world in profound transformation. The digital solutions we are launching today and our recent moves beyond the rail sector with the launch of Aptis and the investment in EasyMile, will revolutionise the world of transportation." declares Henri Poupart-Lafarge, Alstom Chairman and CEO.

Alstom has launched two solutions, developed by Metrolab, that will enhance passengers' journeys in urban transport networks: Optimet OrbanMap, a real-time dynamic information system provided to passengers in metro stations, and Optimet real-time train occupancy, a solution that will ensure a smoother passenger flow on platforms. Optimet OrbanMap allows visualisation at a glance of the metro network, its activity, trains position, travel times, service interruptions, and the level of comfort aboard the trains. Optimet real-time train occupancy shows the level of occupancy per car via a colour LED strip (red, orange or green) above the screen doors which stretches all along the platform, as well as on monitors in the station passage ways and/or elevators.

For operators, Alstom is also launching Mastria, the first multimodal supervision solution. Thanks to Mastria, all the actors of mobility in a given city are linked: bus, tram and metro networks but also taxi, shared cars and bikes, police, etc. The objective is to maximise fluidity between all the means of transportation in a city and to orchestrate passenger routes.

Alstom will be present at UITP 2017 on 15 to 17 May 2017, Palais des Congrès de Montreal, booth n° 2K104. Alstom's booth will give visitors the impression of being within urban rolling stock and show our mobility vision and the ways to improve passenger experience.  Visitors will also, among other things, discover the Citadis Spirit tram-train for Ottawa, its range of catenary-free solutions and Alstom's CBTC[2] solution Urbalis.
