Alstom : signs the German Diversity Charter

Alstom has become a member of the German Diversity Charter. The charter was signed in presence of Olaf Lies, Minister for economy, labour and transport of Lower Saxony, the region hosting two of the companies' sites including Salzgitter, the biggest one for Alstom worldwide.

'Diversity at Alstom has become of utmost importance within a global market environment. It is one of the key pillars of the company's strategy to encourage equal opportunity. Successful company culture does not work without appreciation, mutual trust and acceptance', says Didier Pfleger, Vice President of Alstom in Germany and Austria. 'With this charter we have found an initiative that reflects the same goals we have set ourselves within Alstom, in Germany and worldwide.'

The Diversity Charter is a corporate initiative, supported by the Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel to promote diversity in companies and institutions. It aims at promoting the recognition, appreciation and integration of diversity into Germany's business culture. The signing organisations are to create a working environment free of prejudice where all employees should be valued - regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religion or worldview, disability, age, sexual orientation and identity. This initiative has also received the support of the German Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, Aydan Özoguz.

Alstom in Germany employs around 3,000 people across 6 different locations, of which two are located in the land of Lower Saxony. With over 2.500 employees, Salzgitter is Alstom's biggest site worldwide and an international competence centre for regional trains. The manufacturing capability of the site is of approximately 150 trains and up to 1,000 bogies per year. Each year, about 4,000 freight wagons can also be repaired in Salzgitter. The site of Braunschweig, also located in Lower Saxony, provides full service for regional trains, including modernization and accident repair.
