Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), one of the leading aluminium smelters in the world, is proud to announce that it has been awarded the 2015 award for 'Best Corporate Governance' in the Middle East - Industrial Sector.

Announced by the Ethical Boardroom - a leading international publication on Corporate Governance and Ethics - the award recognised Alba for its role is establishing and maintaining good practices in accountability and transparency in the Region, and for its efforts in promoting ethics and integrity.

The Award was received by Alba's Chief Executive Officer, Tim Murray and Chief Internal Auditor & Risk Officer, Bryan Harris.

Commenting on this occasion, Murray said:

"We would like to thank The Ethical Boardroom for this award, which we believe recognises the journey that Alba has undertaken in recent years to align its practices with the highest standards for corporate governance from around the world."

Describing Alba's journey, and future plans, Harris added:

'The changes in the Company in recent years have been transformational. They were made possible by the leadership of a supportive Board of Directors, and by a workforce that values and practices transparency, fairness and continual improvement. Alba is determined to not only meet statutory and regulatory requirements, but to exceed them, and to actively seek and implement further international best practice in Corporate Governance. In 2015, we are benchmarking ourselves against the recently released UK Corporate Governance Code to identify and implement further opportunities for improvement."

Alba was one of the earliest companies in the Region to launch its own confidential reporting system, and its own Code of Conduct, which outlines the ethical parameters that govern the Company, sets rules in the way business is conducted, provides guidelines in interactions with customers, suppliers and other external bodies, and ensures organisational behaviour remains in line with the values of the Company.

Alba's success in implementing its Code of Conduct was highly appreciated as it was developed with inputs from all departments, representing a diverse cross-section of nationalities, genders, religions, ages and organisational levels.
