NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / April 23, 2018 / U.S. markets dropped Friday as positive corporate earnings were offset by losses from the technology and consumer staples sectors. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note broke above a four-year high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 0.82 percent to close at 24,462.94, while the S&P 500 Index shed 0.85 percent to close at 2,670.14. The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 1.27 percent to close at 7,146.13. Both the Dow Jones and S&P 500 gained 0.42 percent and 0.52 percent respectively for the week, while the Nasdaq increased 0.56 percent.

"Had bonds yields risen because the underlying economy is accelerating, then, we would see higher stock prices too. But Friday's weakness in stocks suggests that investors sold Treasurys because they are concerned that wage pressures and protectionist policies of the White House administration would send inflation higher," said Kristina Hooper, chief global market strategist at Invesco.
