COLLINSVILLE, Ill., Jan. 19, 2016/PRNewswire / -- Ameren Illinois announced today that it is contributed $80,000to help local food pantries feed those in need throughout central and southern Illinois. Grants of $10,000were provided to eight local organizations to help replenish food supplies.

'We know this time of year can be difficult for local food pantries to fully meet the needs of the citizens in our communities,' said Richard J. Mark, President of Ameren Illinois. 'We hope this contribution will help as many families as possible to make sure no one who needs a meal is turned away.'

The donations will be made to the following organizations across the Ameren Illinois service territory.

  • Community Harvest (Morton)
  • South Side Mission (Peoria)
  • Salt & Light Ministries (Champaign)
  • Community Care Center (Granite City)
  • Western Ave Community Center (Bloomington)
  • Law & Grace Ministries (Belleville)
  • GPS Ministries (Quincy)
  • Marion Ministerial Alliance (Marion)

Ameren Illinois is making the donations through its Ameren Cares program, an initiative that connects Ameren Illinois with the communities it serves through charitable giving and volunteering. In 2015, the company donated nearly $1.5 millionto non-profit organizations.
