Ameren : meren Illinois restores power to more than 30,000 customers

Ameren Illinois field crews and support staff restored service to more than 30,000 customers in the wake of the weekend's strong storms that impacted the Ameren Illinois service territory.

Most customers who are without service should expect to have their power restored by late this evening.

We anticipate the majority of customers in the east central part of the state (near Effingham, Olney, Farina, St. Peter and Louisville), where strong winds damaged or toppled more than 60 power poles, will be restored by early morning and all remaining customers by noon.

'We have all available resources on the ground and working as quickly and safely as possible to repair our damaged infrastructure and get the power restored for the remaining customers,' said Richard J. Mark, president, Ameren Illinois. 'We thank our customers for their patience.'

Customer tips

Residents are reminded to watch and avoid downed electrical wires. Never go outside during a power outage after sunset because you won't be able to see downed power line that could still be energized and dangerous. Stay away from brush, downed trees and limbs and any debris that may conceal downed power lines. Call Ameren Illinois at ‪800-755-5000 to report downed wires.
