LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) announced today that American Airlines will be recognized as the 2018 Corporate Honoree at the 22nd annual Eddy Awards® on Nov. 8.

The Eddy Awards celebrate exceptional contributions to economic development in the L.A. region, consistent with LAEDC's focus on increasing shared prosperity for residents and communities.

'This is a tremendous honor for American. We are deeply committed to Los Angeles, and we are proud that our investments in the airport, the local community and, most importantly, our nearly 7,000 team members who live and work here are making a positive impact. We look forward to continuing to do our part to create an increasingly bright future for the City of Angels.'
- Suzanne Boda, American Airlines Senior Vice President - Los Angeles

American has grown and strengthened its presence at its Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) hub recently through significant direct and indirect investments in the region. Last May, American announced Boda as Senior Vice President - Los Angeles, a newly created position charged with developing and achieving the airline's strategic goals in Los Angeles and throughout Southern California. And last September, the airline announced a $1.6 billion investment in LAX's Terminals 4 and 5 to create a world-class experience for its 16.5 million annual passengers and nearly 7,000 team members who call the hub home.

'In addition to those tangible contributions, American's extraordinary people and culture define the company and its relationship with Los Angeles,' the LAEDC said in its announcement. 'This is visible through its focus on local workforce development, through its locally driven philanthropy with organizations including the Los Angeles Mission, St. Anne's Maternity Home, the Los Angeles Urban League and Stand Up to Cancer, among others, and in acts of compassion including its recent donation of blankets, pillows and other essentials to help local people affected by the Thomas Fire.'

American is the largest carrier at LAX with nearly 200 daily flights to 70 destinations on five continents. Since 2015, the carrier has added service to 25 new destinations from LAX, including Sydney; Hong Kong; Tokyo's Haneda Airport; Beijing; Auckland, New Zealand and, most recently, Buenos Aires - making American the first and only airline to offer nonstop service from LAX to Argentina's capital city.

'It is often said that Los Angeles is the western capital of the United States, the eastern capital of the Pacific Rim and the northern capital of Latin America. American continues to play an outsized role in earning us that title,' said LAEDC CEO Bill Allen. 'Honoring American is long overdue, and we are grateful for the company's 'tight connection' with L.A. County's prosperity.'

American will be honored alongside the educational and individual honorees at the annual Eddy Awards gala dinner, Nov. 8, hosted by the LAEDC in downtown Los Angeles. To learn more, visit laedc.org/eddy.
