Vaudeville trunk show to raise funds for Elite Travel Troupe's cultural exchange to Peru
Krayon Kids Musical Theatre Company invites all to attend The American Express, to be presented at 2 and 7 p.m.June 16 at the Barclay Theater in Oregon City.
The show features members of the company's Elite Travel Troupe presenting songs and dances representing the melting pot of the United States. Audiences are invited to jump aboard as the troupe travels to San Francisco'sChinatown, Las Vegas, the windy city of Chicago and the plains of Texas, then charter a plane to Hawaii and finally experience the sights and sounds of New York City.
"Each stop along The American Express presents new musical and dance styles, traditional to the culture of each state and city that we visit," said Taylor Miller, artistic director of the company. "This is our fifth time producing 'The American Express' show and each time we put together this production we adapt and change, based on the current Travel Troupe cast. You can expect to see spectacular costumes, choreography and family fun of a traditional Krayon Kids show, only this time completely out-of-the-box in a vaudeville show."
Proceeds from the production will be used to defray expenses of the Elite Travel Troupe's upcoming trip to Peru this summer.
The Elite Travel Troupe is a select group of Krayon Kids company members. The troupe has as its mission to provide young people opportunities to travel and perform at a professional level. Since it was formed in 1999 the group has performed at venues throughout the Northwest and Hawaii, has represented the U.S. in four world festivals and performed in a competition at DisneyWorld in 2014. The trip to Peru is for a cultural exchange.

"The Travel Troupe has many goals for their trip to Peru this summer, including cultural exchange, personal connections with other artistic students and the ability to teach and learn in art-based workshops," Miller said. "While in Peru our cast members will attend the Colegio America-Callao High School where they will perform three times and participate in workshops taught by students and teachers from the campus."
Miller says The American Express is presented in the style of a vaudeville trunk show.
"The most unusual thing about this style is the overall variety of numbers that take place in a short time period as costume changes take place on stage," he said. "The troupe continues to astound and thrill audiences everywhere with their unique caliber of amazing talent and showmanship."
The Elite Travel Troupe includes 20 actors, including Lake Oswego and West Linn actors Ashley Alexander, Briana Alexander, Gabi Fustolo, Aislinn McCarthy, Nathalia Nicoladle, Abriella Nicoladle, Calais Radcliffe and Natalie Scott.
Tickets to the performance are $20 for adults or $10 for children 12 and under. Purchase them online at krayonkids.org. Barclay Theater is located at 817 12th St in Oregon City.
