Boil Advisory Lifted for Certain Indiana American Water Customers in West Lafayette

Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Lifted for West Lafayette Customers

West Lafayette, Ind. (May 23, 2015) - Indiana American Water has lifted the precautionary boil water advisory in effect since yesterday morning for many of its West Lafayette customers.

Indiana American Water has tested several samples of water and determined that no further precautionary boiling of water for consumption is necessary. The company apologizes for any inconvenience this boil advisory may have caused and pledges to keep the water supply safe and customers informed.
The boil advisory was necessary after an electrical outage yesterday morning shut down its Davis Ferry water treatment facility caused pressure in the system to go below 20 pounds per square inch (psi). The Indiana Department of Environmental Management mandates boil water advisories to ensure high-quality water in the event water pressure drops below 20 pounds per square inch (psi) in any part of a distribution system. According to company officials, boil water advisories are issued as a precaution with a customer's best interests in mind.
During the boil water advisory, the water company performs a series of tests to determine if the water meets regulatory drinking water standards. Boil advisories usually last from 18 to 36 hours. Samples are taken from several sites within the affected area.
Customers can always call the Indiana American Customer Service Center at 1-800-492-
8373 for the latest updates. Indiana American Water serves approximately 10,400 customers, or a population of more than 40,000 in its West Lafayette service area.
