Additional "green" features, timely for Earth Day, include paperless billing and electronic check payment with no service fee

VOORHEES, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Customers of American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation's largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, are now able to more easily access their account information using their mobile devices. American Water's 24-hour My H2O Online customer account management site, www.amwater.com/myh2o, recently became "mobile-friendly" in an effort to improve customers' online experience.

"As we continue to see more enrollments in our online customer site, it made good sense to further increase the ease by which our customers can do business with us," said Karla Olson Teasley, vice president, Customer Service. "We launched our mobile-friendly platform in direct response to feedback from our customers, who tell us they want to be able to access their account information from wherever they are and at whatever time is convenient for them."

My H2O Online gives customers the opportunity to take care of some of the most common reasons they need to access their accounts, from checking balances and paying bills to reviewing past water usage and scheduling appointments for some service items.

Through My H2O Online, customers can also select to go paperless by enrolling in the company's free paperless billing and automatic payment (also called Electronic Fund Transfer or EFT) programs. Well-timed around the annual observance of Earth Day, this is an easy step that American Water customers can take to be environmentally friendly by reducing paper usage year-round. These efforts also help customers and the company save postage and paper costs.

Beginning this month, a change in My H2O Online also allows customers to make individual payments through a My H2O Online account using an electronic check with no service fee. Credit and debit card payments are still available but carry a nominal service charge from the company's bill pay vendor.

"Customer service is a top priority for us at American Water and we believe these improvements will provide our customers with more convenient access and better account service," said Teasley.
