Illinois American Water's Champaign County District to Open New Operations and Distribution Center in Urbana Ribbon cutting and tour to be held at 1 PM on May 5

Urbana, Ill. (May 1, 2015) - Illinois American Water's Champaign County District and the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce will celebrate a new operations and distribution building at 1406 W. Cardinal Court in Urbana. A ribbon cutting will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 1 PM. After the ribbon cutting a tour of the building will be offered.
According to Ron Smith, Senior Operations and Production Manager for the Champaign County District, this investment of about $3.6 million will improve operational efficiencies and enhance customer service. "The new building will provide an enhanced environment to support operations in providing continued reliable and high- quality service to customers," said Smith.
The facility is approximately 30,000 sq. ft. and includes new office space, expanded equipment storage, a
23,000 sq. ft. maintenance garage and dedicated operations and maintenance areas. TRi Architects from St. Louis designed the project and Petry-Kuhne Company of Champaign was the General Contractor.
The U.S. EPA reports that the nation's water utilities will need to make more than $384 billion in infrastructure investments by 2030 to ensure public health. These investments include replacing thousands of miles of pipe and upgrades to treatment plants, storage tanks and other assets. Illinois American Water's investment in the Champaign County District is just another example of continuous investments and improvements being made, helping to meet the demands of today's customers and planning for the future.
