Sterling, Ill. (April 13, 2015) - Illinois American Water's Sterling District will celebrate its new operations and distribution building at 1202 Commerce Drive in Sterling. A ribbon cutting will be held on Thursday, April 16,
2015 at 1 PM. After the ribbon cutting a tour of the building will be offered.
According to Steve Barnet, operations superintendent for the Sterling District, this investment of about
$1.6 million will improve operational efficiencies and enhance customer service. "The new building will provide an enhanced environment to support operations in providing continued reliable and high-quality service to customers," said Barnet.
The facility, located in Meadowlands Business Park, is approximately 9,800 sq. ft. and includes an improved customer service area; expanded equipment storage and maintenance garage with three garage bays; and dedicated operations and maintenance areas. Korte & Lutijohan out of Highland, Ill. completed the design build which included engineering work by Prairie Engineers of Illinois located in Lincoln, Ill. Prairie Engineers is a Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE). TR, i Architects was the architect for this project.
The U.S. EPA reports that the nation's water utilities will need to make more than $384 billion in infrastructure investments by 2030 to ensure public health. These investments include replacing thousands of miles of pipe and upgrades to treatment plants, storage tanks and other assets.
