New Jersey American Water Buys Hillside Hydrants VOORHEES, NJ (May 15, 2015) -New Jersey American Water has purchased nearly 500 fire hydrants from the Township of Hillside for approximately $232,665. With this transaction, New Jersey American Water now owns, services, and maintains all the fire hydrants within its service territories.

"Managing water infrastructure and providing customer service is New Jersey American Water's core business," said Robert Schaefer, senior director of operations for New Jersey American Water's Central Operations. "We're are pleased to complete this acquisition that enables us to provide safe, proper and adequate fire protection for the residents and business owners in Hillside Township. It's a win-win for everyone."
"The sale of our hydrants is a win for the Hillside Fire Department and for the taxpayers, "said Hillside Fire Chief Dominick Nolan. "Hydrant repair and maintenance costs have shifted from Hillside to New Jersey American Water. The sale expedites the repair and replacement of all out-of-service fire hydrants, and increases department response time for locating operational hydrant during fire emergencies."
