Pennsylvania American Water Announces $1.6 Million Upgrade for Luzerne County Water Lines

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (August 20, 2014) - Pennsylvania American Water today announced water main replacement projects in seven Luzerne County communities to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions and increase water flows for firefighting. The cost of the water system improvements is approximately $1.6 million.

"These projects will replace parts of our water infrastructure dating back to the late 1800s," said Anthony Gangemi, superintendent of field operations, Pennsylvania American Water. "We believe it's important to proactively make these investments to improve service reliability for our customers and increase fire flows for public safety."

Beginning the week of August 25, the company will replace more than 8,000 feet of undersized two-, four-, and six-inch water main with new eight-inch ductile iron pipe in the following areas:

  • Ashley
    • Cemetery Street
    • Brown Street
  • Courtdale
  • Nanticoke
  • Plymouth
  • Pringle
    • Pringle Street
    • Center Street
  • Sugar Notch
  • Warrior Run
    • Orchard Street
    • Bauer Street
    • Harrison Street

The company expects to complete the water main installation, including transfer of all customer services and final paving restoration, by the end of November.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. For more information, contact Pennsylvania American Water's customer service center at 1-800-565-7292.
